Oh my, how has wikivorce helped me? When I first came here I was terrified. I was homeless and my life was shattered. I spent hours in chat and on these boards. I read everything I could, every post, every blog. I read everything just in case there was something relevant in there. I think I was near the brink of breakdown when I came here. I have made some truly special friends that have helped me through my divorce

If you are a long-term user of Wiki, what is it about Wiki that encourages you to stay?

I have now been with Wiki for 2 years ish (or maybe it's more than that) I stay because I hope I can help someone else the way I was helped

What are your personal experiences of using Wikivorce, and of the community?

Honestly.... I have 'met' people on Wiki that I haven't got on with. You will always come across one or two people who you don't get on with and whose opinion you will disagree with as a matter of principle. It is easy to get upset as divorce is such an emotional issue, but for the most part and by that I mean probably 98% of the time, I have always found Wikivorce to be a pleasant place to visit

Has using Wikivorce helped you with the legal side of divorce, or have you received emotional support that you wouldn't have received anywhere else?

DL was the resident legal bod when I joined Wiki and when I needed advice. She was amazing and helped me out so much. She made sense of forms that I didn't understand and helped me with answers to questions that would have cost me a fortune to ask my solicitor. The good thing about Wikivorce is that you can go into chat, on the blogs, on the threads and ask the same questions or repeat your story as many times as you like and because everyone here is in the same boat or has been in the same boat, nobody rolls their eyes or makes excuses to leave you alone because you are wittering on about the same subject (your divorce) again, and again and again.
There are so many special thank you's I have never given out, but they weigh heavily on me because I want to say thank you to so many people for their support and help when I was at rock bottom. *sniff* *sniff* (sorry, hanky moment)

No I never did, but I have recommended them to other people

Has Wikivorce helped you, if so, in what way? - Definitely helped. Provided a way of getting advice and support (legal and emotional). Made me see that there is a way through divorce, that there is life after divorce and that I wouldn't end up homeless without any contact with my kids.

If you are a long-term user of Wiki, what is it about Wiki that encourages you to stay? - The desire to give something back. I got a lot of help here in the early days of my separation and want to help others entering the maze.

What are your personal experiences of using Wikivorce, and of the community? - Wikimeets were a great way of making new friends. I could never get on with chat - it all moved too fast and my typing couldn't keep up! Blogging was a surprisingly useful way of clearing my head, and helping me to see things more clearly.

Has using Wikivorce helped you with the legal side of divorce, or have you received emotional support that you wouldn't have received anywhere else? - I had a solicitor for the legal side, but Wikivorce helped me prepare for my meetings with her without having to ask lots of questions and increase my bill. Lots of emotional support from people who understood what I was going through.

Has Wikivorce helped me, where do I start? Well this site literally saved my sanity. I knew no one who experienced divorce and in the first six weeks after my husband left the people on this site literally willed me through that time with kindness and wisdom through posts and PMs.

I think the collective experience on this site is emormously powerful. I am always blown away by the support that pours out of the responses to my posts. I think this site accelerates recovery from separation and divorce through the sharing of experiences and the wonderful support provided within the community.

I think simply the most single important thing is wiki makes you realise you are not alone. Many people have had their lives tragically ripped apart through divorce and it is the kind of thing that you need to experience to fully understand it. And often you find that experiences are remarkably similar which is massively reassuring. You see posts often where someone thinks there problem is extreme or unique and often at least one post will follow saying "that happened to me too" This just helps so much to know that these difficult times are shared - someone else knows and understands.

I have made some truly wonderful real life friends out of this virtual world which I think demonstrates the power of the site. All wikimeets have been great fun and I would recommend the site and these events to anyone. Have told my counsellor about the site so she can recommend to others.

I am still mid divorce so not a long term user just yet. Would like to think that I would still help others on here as the longer term members play a vital role in helping newcomers to see that there is a life after divorce.

Not used the online divorce services - would have done if situation not quite as complex.

Think Wikivorce is amazing and the Wikivorce team do an outstanding job.

I found Wikivorce about 3 months ago & I wish I had found it alot sooner.

The people here have been great & helped when I was fustrated or just needed somewhere to voice my angry.

I have been on Wikivorce since the summer of 2007, which is nearly as long as my divorce has taken so far.

Although I don't generally join chat, I've found Wikivorce a source of great comfort. I live in a world in which everyone else seems to have happy marriages, and it is good to see that I am not the only one going through this.

It's also a very good source of advice and information. I've particularly valued the professionals who post - of course their advice can't be too specific, but it does give a good general idea. I think the debates about child contact and how to deal with your ex are also very important. Even though I don't ask a lot of questions, because I have read replies over such a long time I have a much more rounded view of the issues and I think I tend to panic less (though of course that is also partly the passing of time).

It's clear that the interpersonal support is really really important to people here. I stay partly because it makes me feel good to see that happening, and partly because I feel a sense of community with the other regulars here, particularly those who joined around when I did (those of you who are left - anyone still in touch with Loobyloo?)
