What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Thanks very much for this.

When the Consent Order is drawn up can it say FMH to be sold and stbx can buy at time of sale for market value or something like that ? I dont think he can afford to buy me out (i hope he can) but he isnt prepared to sell any vehicles to do this. Im just so ready to get on with things now. Do you think the court would agree a 50/50 split including pensions as at the minute im earning more as im currently able to work FT as im working from home at the minute. This wont be the case when I am back in the office. Also im 7 years younger so will that be reflected in the division please ? Im hoping he will agree the 50/50 with me as a starting point. If we put the option for him to buy in the CO it might move things along as he is adamant he is staying put. Thanks
