What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

R age 54 A age 43. 9 years marriage (plus 5 cohab)No children of the marriage. No pensions. A income £13,000 R income £15,000 FMH equity (R) £227,500. A other marital assets £8000 R other marital assets £5000. A non marital assets £2000 R non marital assets £130,000. A debts £7000 R debts £24,000. Would a 60/40 split of the FMH in favour of R be considered fair as he has health needs which make housing need greater but also has non marital assets to potentially use?A made no contributions to the purchase/mortgage of the FMH but did contribute towards living expenses. Both parties to retain their own other assets and liabilities. Both parties are cohabiting with new partners in long term relationships. Neither party has any mortgage capacity on their own. Just trying to gauge what offers are reasonable in an attempt to get this all finished! Any thought please?
