What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi looking for some guidance.
My wife's father gave us a gift of £30,000 when we married to put in for a deposit of our marital home. This was about 33% of the cost of the property me and my wife both put in the other 33% to stop us having a mortgage. She is now saying she owns 2/3rd of the property given her dads gift to us. Is this correct or is it a 50/50 spilt as I am trying to communicate.
It has now went very Toxic now and just got this thrown at me.
Any advice is welcome - thanks

Unless it says differently on the deeds, because that’s what you set up at the time, then it’s 50:50.

The argument that what was a gift when everyone was happy was actually a loan when it all goes wrong is as old as the hills. Court won’t be interested.
