What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

My husband is in the position where he has all the marital assets and can afford legal representation in our divorce and I cannot, if I am to use a credit card or a loan to pay for legal representation can I add this back into the final financial settlement costs and also can I ask for all the money that he has spent on legal representation to be added back into the marital assets pot because I do believe he has cashed in shares and savings in order to pay for legal costs

You can reduce your costs considerably by representing yourself and using a direct access barrister for court representation.
In financial proceedings each party bears their own costs.

If he has cashed in matrimonial assets to fund his legal costs you can ask for this to be treated as part of the settlement that he's already had.

Have a look at the services we provide for litigants in person and maybe book a free chat with one of our team?
