What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am in the process of Judicial Separation. My husband mostly travels and visits only for a few days a month. He does not pay any bills, apart from gas and electricity. Does not contribute to any household expenses. I have a child who is 15 yrs old. I contacted child maintenance, and they advised that they could not do anything, since when he comes to the UK, he stays in our family home. My file was closed. I do not think he will move out until we have a final hearing on my application for financial remedy. My husband has failed to respond, and my solicitor cannot send a bailiff either since he is not in the country. I do not know how long it will take for us to come to a final hearing on financial remedy, is there any other way of asking for contributions towards child maintenance? Did anyone else have a similar experience.
