What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi,
l have been divorced for 17 years but there was no financial settlement at that time.
I purchased a home in Spain just before we separated.
I have also spent 65k doing it up plus upkeep.
My husbands mame is on it and I want to update the house which will cost 48k.
We went to mediation but he chose not to attend.
We are now in court in September and we have heard nothing from him as we are going for financil settlenent.
Can we push get a decision if he does not attend, and he does not submit finances

September is still some way off so probably a bit soon to be concerned.
Have you agreed a date to exchange financial details?
If not the court will set a date at the initial meeting.

I have tull 23 August to exchange information. My solicitor thinks he will ignore this and have been unable to contact him.
I know hi well and he does not believe I can get a financial settlement after 17 years.
I doubt he will turn up but I am still paying a barrister.
This has been going on for so long.
I have ill health and have given notice in my job as I am struggling.
I cannot afford to continue the costs long term
