What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi, I brought a house before I met my husband, when we started dating 8 years later he moved in, his name was never put on the deeds, he didn't pay towards the mortgage just a small amount each month towards bills.we are now divorcing and he's talking about claimed 50% as I am selling the house, we were only married for 3 years and I have a child under 16 from a previous relationship..can he do this? We agreed on a payment of £6000 originally but now he wants more

He can claim whatever he wishes. What he actually gets is a totally different matter.
Did you cohabit before marriage?
What other assets are there?
Usually with a short childless marriage you each leave with what you came with and just share things built up in the relationship.
How was the figure of £6k arrived at?

We lived together for 4 years before we married. There are no other assets.
We came to £6000 as he is letting me keep a couple of things that he purchased for the home (sofa and tv) and was working it out around what I had left after the sale of the house once me and my daughter were settled
