What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi everyone, I’m after anyone who is in a similar position to me please. Getting divorced and we have a disabled (adult, 26) son who after the divorce will be living with me. My question is can I claim more from the asset of the house (60/40 or 70/30?) he can easily get a mortgage and earns 3 times more than me. I’m only part time because of looking after our son. Married 26 years. Thank you for reading x

You’d need to post more details of incomes, assets and ages for anyone to comment.

If the level of care your son needs prevents you working full time presumably he gets attendance allowance and other benefits?

Is the FMH adapted for your son’s needs and are you planning on staying there?
