What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Self employed income on financial disclosure form

Good morning

This is my first post 🙂

I'm just starting out on the mediation journey and need to complete the initial financial disclosure form. I have a question about the income/wages figure.

I am self employed and my income varies from month to month and year to year. I'm on track to earn more this year than last year. My question is, do I take my net income from my last tax return and use this as the figures are exact, or do I work out a rough calculation of what I might earn, expenses, tax and NI in the financial year ending April 25 and use this?

I don't want it to seem like I'm hiding my higher income, but if I use this year's figures it will be a total guess as I'm only half way through the financial year.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you
