What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

This issue with divorce is that different Judges see divorce in different ways. Judges have discretion as to what they award. London Judges are notoriously generous and is known as the divorce capital of the world. However judging by the £150k of equity it sounds like an outside London case.

Sounds like there are two adult children and her earnings may have suffered as a result.

Hopefully a 75/25 split will be big enough to create a Clean Break.

Maybe you could offer 75% of the equity and pension on a "clean break" and "without predjudice" basis. Clean break means no spousal.

A Judge may expect you to rebuild your pension out of your higher income.

As another poster has suggested, just pay the bare minimum. So just 50% of the mortgage. I don't think you need to pay child support on top of 50% of the mortgage if 50% of the mortgage is more than the child support.

The case seems fairly straight forward as the kids are nearly adults and she has a job so you should be able to do the legal side yourself without solicitors/barristers. There is no point burning through all your money on legal fees, especially as this is not helping your case. It sounds like you are wasting money on legal fees without any return on investment.
