What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Ive agreed a sum.with the ex and lawyer has drafted the d81.
however I need to add a date for when I will pay the amount and also a date for me to take over the mortgage.
I have no idea what date to put. I havnt applied officially for a mortgage yet but been told by a Broker i cam raise the £x amount but how do I know what date? The paragraph reads if I go past this date then I'll owe ex 8% . I've messaged my lawyer but she takes ages to get back to me.

Where are you in the divorce process?
You want any deadlines to be a reasonable time after the court order is granted.
Presume it’s interest at 8% and not a lump sum. It might be better to get that changed to the house being put up for sale if you don’t meet the deadline just in case you run into problems when you do apply for the mortgage.
