What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Could someone tell me whether or not my ex-husband would be eligible for legal aid. He is playing the "sick note", and is self-employed, and has investments of over £8,000. He has got some grounds for saying he is not able to work, but he is still doing so,and has got a note from the the doctor. He has told me that if I do not agree to his terms, then he will get legal aid and fight to the bitter end! I would just like to know where I stand on this one!:(:(

Hi

Legal aid is a loan not a gift .

He will fight , he can fight all he wants but if legal aid view his merits and thinks its not worth fighting they won't fund it .ie argue over 5k cost 8k not worth while for legal aid to pursue.

Can he get legal aid ? again he is self employed they require and ask for an awful lot of paper work as my ex found out , btw you could also make representation to the legal board stating why you don't think he should be able to obtain it.
