What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi can anyone please give me some sound advice regarding my solicitor. I started divorce proeedings last March 2008 against my husband for unreasonable behaviour.:(Since starting my divorce, I have had no money from him I have a son who is 17 and my ex pays for the morgage and household bills, I live on £388 a month this money is for both me and my son. I have been financially drained by my solicitor (I have paid over £18,000) so far. The house is on the market and has just been sold as we owe £70,000 on the overdraft (after paying the overdaft and morgage off the proceeds left from the house will be £400,000). My ex will not release me any money from the house sale and my solicitor says that I have to go into rented accommodation which I cannot do as my ex will not give me any money so I shall be moving in with my sister. The other item that I need to be clarified on is that my husband has shares in his dads business of 16% and there are only the 2 share holders, however my solicitor has said that I have to get an accountant in to value the shares which I have done and paid for what my concern is - am I wasting my money the company has a turnover of around 7-8 million a year all I would like to know if anyone can help me is it worth pursing these shares - i.e. will I get anything out of the company (I also worked there for 14 years) my ex has told me that I am wasting my time and I should sue my solicitor - can anyone please help me as I am desperate I am in financial debt now which I have never been in and do not want to pay out anymore unnecessary money out to my solicitor.

Thank you.:(

Regards Jackie

Do the shares have any capital value or is the value income?
