What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

hi im wondering if anybody can help..
my other half is wanting to divorce his wife. they got married abroad (jamaica)around 9 years ago and seperated around 5 years ago. he has since found out that she never registered the marriage in the uk. also she is a bit funny and starts messing around so we know she will make it difficult for him. he has no idea of where she is living now (we're in east anglia and have heard she's gone back up north where shes origionally from) he has no way of finding her anymore and would prefer no contact so she doesnt know where we are either, for our own safety (she is mentally ill and used to sit outside my other halfs house and this work, before we were together).
my questions are.. how can he go about getting a divorce without a marriage certificate and if it wasnt registered here in the uk? does he need to track a certificate from jamaica to get divorced or can he do it without? - what if he couldnt track it? also, does he have to have contact with her? and can it be done without costly solicitors? - we really cannot afford them!
any help would really be greatly appreciated!!

He is still married and will need the cert, this is the application,

wzeu.ask.com/r?t=p&d=eu&s=uk&...riageApplication.cfm

Wiki has lots of posts and guides in the library on how to do the divorce alone without a solicitor, its best to take it one step at a time get the cert first, then its the divorce petition.

Yes he can divorce if he cannot find his wife but before court will allow this he must show he has exhausted every avenue in trying to find where his wife lives.
