What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello, I am going to start the divorce process myself, the solicitor has been through the process and in order to keep costs down I am
Going to do as much as I can myself. Is this an easy process the grounds are adultery (there is a baby so can''t see him denying it). I think I just need reassurance that I can do it.

Have a read through of our DIY Divorce guide so that you are familiar with the process - www.wikivorce.com/divorce/Guides-Divorce...-Initial-Checks.html

There''s no reason why you can''t do the divorce yourself, but I would suggest you first make sure that your ex will engage with an adultery Petition to ensure smooth passage.

Just a quick q - did you live together for more than 6 months after becoming aware of his affair?

I found out about the affair the day after Boxing Day 2014. So I think I should be ok id I staart the process now.

I need to get some interim maintenance from him and so this is why my solicitor has suggested filing for divorce as he is busy siphoning off
Money leaving me and two small children with not a lot.

Make sure you tick the Maintenance Pending Suit box in Part 10 (the prayer) if you are intending on applying for interim SM.

If you have a sols, they will be able to advise you on completing the D8.
