What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Are you sure you have the right end of the stick? What is the question that the solicitor is asking?

Normally, a solicitor would not ask for money from the other party unless this was on behalf of their client in which case it might be called maintenance or contribution to the upkeep of the matrimonial home. If the term ''expenses'' was used and they are asking you for your address they might want to summon you as a witness and it is usual to send witness expenses (sometimes called conduct money) which is usually around £10.

I might be wrong but it depends what was asked of you.

the exact wording in sols letter is - "in relation to expenses can you please confirm the address which is listed as your main address (or has been until very recently)".
I don''t understand the question....

No, I don''t either. Ask them to confirm to what expenses they refer.
