What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do I need a separate solicitor/conveyor to my ex to handle the sale of our jointly owned property?

He says i need my own which is fine but how can 2 handle the sale of 1 property . Surely we need 1 joint person to sell it?

Only need one conveyancer/solicitor to manage the sale. You may need both solicitors to have a form agreeing how sale proceeds are being split and how that you've all signed

It is common for one of the firms acting to deal with the conveyancing in-house.

For instance, if the applicant solicitor has a colleague who deals with conveyancing, the parties could agree to pass the instructions to the colleague.
