What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi,

I am thinking about amending my petition from 2yr separation to unreasonable behaviour as stbe has now decided to, in his words, 'make my life as difficult as possible' by not returning the papers to the court.

If I do go with UB I am 100% convinced he will contest the divorce (just to be awkward) but what will happen next?

He is entitled to legal aid, but I am not, so will he incur any costs if he contests and it goes to court, or will it just be me that ends up paying?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

Thanks x

Hi there

He wont get legal aid to contest a divorce, the board does not allow it as they pretty much always fail so they see it as a waste of public funds.
