Hi,

If a divorcing couple come to a financial agreement they feel is fair (and later on the judge also agrees), what level of involvement of soliciors is required? we have both had meetings with solicitors already (not to discuss financial elements), but wondering if we "have to" again, other than getting one to draft the Consent Order based on our proposed agreement?

I think i read that if a judge thinks it's unfair they would ask for additional information or the couple to appear to talk about it? we could both say (and prove) we have had independant legal advice.

Thanks all :)

You do need the consent order to be properly drafted. That can be done via this site for a fixed price.
It is advisable to take legal advice but you don't have to. The draft consent order will be accompanied by a D81 Statement of Financial Information. This will help the judge who looks at the order decide whether it is fair. If you both tick the box to say you've had legal advice I suspect it is less likely to be queried.
