My wife wants a "trial" seperation. This will probably mean her going to her Mothers for a couple of months to see how it goes. Will I be entitled to claim tax credits during this time? My wife will still be actively involved in child carte but not sleeping at the matrimonial home except maybe on a very odd occassion.

Will she have to come off the council tax bill for our home and change to her mothers address in order to allow it or can I just claim and make sure I tell them when, and if, she moves back at the end of the trial?

CB is in my name if that makes any difference.

If your wife does leave then yes you will but be careful if it works out well and your wife comes home you must inform them immediately or you will end up paying it all back.

Thanks.

Do you know if they require any proof that she has moved and how long it takes to get the new payment?

Can it just be done over the phone as a change of circumstances or do you have to fill a new form in?

Hi
if its council tax then give them the address over the phone of where she is staying-her mums?
And likewise when I had to start claiming tax credits I did it all over the phone too. there was no problem with it or them at all.
Good luck.
