I am non resident parent. My eldest is about to start Uni.(Great news - she's doing medicine:) :):))
In the Guide 'Higher Education Student Finance - How You are assessed and Paid' It states that "Parents contribution depends on their income. If you are separated the LA or SLC will take the income of whichever parent they consider to be appropriate in the circumstances."

What tends to happen - do they consider the income of the PWC (my stbx), or myself - (the main earner).

I will pay if assesed - but I need to understand for my financial statement and ancillary relief discussions.

Advice welcome

No answer but I am confused here, When the Government brought in student tuition top up fees that went to great length to explain that there was no parental contribution. I am therefore somewhat confused (why should I be, it was a politician who said this after all)as why there is quite blatently a parental contribution.

No expert on this because am just filling in forms but AFAIK there is now a grant available if your income is below a certain level - as well as tuition fees bursaries. I think they take into account household living costs as well.

Have got the forms but not filled them in. I have no contribution from stbx so it is just my income they do it on. Presumably it is the PWC.
