Private payments for child who is disabled ?

My partner has a eighteen year old who lives with his ex.When do we stop paying the private payments.( £400 every four weeks for both )This might sound harsh but the full story is very long.
We were told by other 15yr child (only communication) that 18yr old will no longer be going to school but arrangements in hand for child to receive care in community.
Not sure if we should put the whole thing back to CSA or not.
Have sort legal advice but couldnt really help as each disabled child has to be considered on own merits.
