Morning all, this is my first post. I separately from my wife two years ago as she was an abusive alcoholic.

I''ve received divorce proceedings today and she is asking for payments towards her son. His biological father already pays maintenance. Am I required to make payments in addition? We were only married three years.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

No, the first call for child maintenance is the natural father.

Hi Evertonfansteve

Thank you for your post I am William the Child Maintenance Options consultant. You would only need to pay child maintenance to your wife if the biological father had given up his parental rights and you had adopted her son. If you have not adopted her son, then you would not be liable to pay child maintenance.

To find out more about how Child Maintenance Options can help you visit www.cmoptions.org or call us free on 0800 988 0988 between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday or 9am and 4pm on Saturday.

I hope this helps.

William
