Hi All,

Hope you can help.

My wife is using a solicitor whos charges £140 p/h.

I was wondering around how much will it costs for the divorce if it all goes through smoothly. We agreed te finance ourselves wih no objections. We also have a 2 yr old.

Hope you can give me a rough idea

Thanks

Tut tut ! Your soliciutor should have told you all this when accepting instructions. It's called a client care letter. Did you get one ?

£140 p.h. is pretty reasonable, in my view.

My solicitor charges £150/hour, they're not a big company and not in a city, I think £140 is a good rate these days.

Just my thoughts

I emeber reading in one of the other posts that a divorce can take 16hrs if simple. So 16hrsx£140 = £2240. This could be about right.

If you are self repping the only expenses are court fees and fees to anyone from whom you might wish to take advice - like an accountant to advise on tax.

It looks as though the question is based on costs to deal with the divorce only in which case the costs is 4-4.5 hours at the solicitors hourly rate + VAT + court fees.

This would give a total of £1057.00 - £1141.00.

Dealing with the finances by consent would obviously be extra.
