I believe the ex-wife continues to work cash in hand for her family's business, but she is claiming an inability to work on account of arthritis in the back.

I suspect she is unable to claim many government benefits due to the £26k she has in the bank, but I do not believe she is receiving disability living allowance either (or has even applied for it).

We are both recently turned 50.

How is it fair that one party can choose to opt out of being responsible for their own financial situation, and the Courts then put the full responsibility for that onto the other party?

Is that how this is going to go?

I work hard for my money - where is the incentive for me to keep doing that if a large part of that gets handed to someone who chooses to sit on her sofa for the rest of her life?

My solicitor's view has mirrored the comments here on my post, but my concern is clearly that there are no guarantees if it goes before a judge, and my ex-wife seems to have been advised that she can expect to walk away with everything and spousal maintenance for life.

I was hoping to hear from people who might have been in similar circumstances to see how it turned out for them.
