Hi,
I am new to the group and wish you all well in your own journeys!
My current situation has now evolved that my children (now adults) are edging me to file for a divorce soonest.
A background to my situation;
I met with another single parent on a dating site in 2006 and things developed that she came to the UK with her child during that year.
FYI I already had 2 children (6 & 11) and things went well, but we had challenges because of the mix and breakdowns in the relationship happened and she returned to her home country with her child.
We repaired our differences from a distance and eventually married in Feb 2008 and she took responsibility of the children overal (eg school runs etc) whilst also working part-time.
I had been working full-time throughout myself being a single parent and holding down a mortgage on my current property.
Unfortunately, the challenges re-appeared and we separated in November 2009 and have been apart since that time.
Both our children (not blood related) have grown up and holding down their own careers.
My separated wife is working within her own careeer and I believe she is renting somewhere in Close-by.
I am now in the position to divorce (financially stable) and looking to divorce without complications due to the length of separation 10 years plus!
My concern is will she have any financial reward on my property, even though we had been living together 1 year 8 months during marriage?
I am being hounded by my children to file for divorce but am hampered by my own thoughts to this scenario.
Please may someone give advice or point me somewhere that I could get advice without being ripped off!
Thanks and much appreciated,

Welcome to Wikivorce but sorry you find yourself here.

If you have been separated for more than five years, you can divorce without her agreement.

If she is independent and there are no major financial issues, there would seem to be no reason not to have a Clean Break to dismiss any future claims. You could propose a Consent Order on this basis.

If you want to discuss, you could call the helpline (012020 80 50 20) to see how our fixed price services, including divorce, consent order and financial legal consultation could assist.
