Hi All,

I'm starting on my divorce journey, we been together for over 37 years, need as much help and advice as i can get.

Where do I stand if my wife has moved out of the martial house.

Does she have rights to come back.
Can i change the locks legally without getting in to trouble.

If your ex has her name on the deeds of the house as well as you then if you were to get the locks changed (well within your rights of course) then she is within her rights to break the lock to gain entry into 'her property'
Been through this myself so know all too well, sorry

If you change the locks you need to be prepared to provide her with a key. You do have a right to privacy so she cannot just wander in without giving you notice. As joint owner she could exercise her right to move back in while finances are settled.

It is a good idea to make sure you are familiar with the divorce process and how financial settlements work. If you need support and dont want to pay a solicitor to do everything for you, it is worth checking out the services offered by this site.

We cannot recommend individual solicitors on this site.

We offer a range of low cost fixed price services that you may want to consider. Have a look at the services tab ?
