Hi, my ex is pushing for a sale on our family home. I’m dead set against this and the disruption it would bring to my son’s first year at secondary school. Because of this I’m considering applying for a Mesher order to delay the sale. It’s been suggested to me that agreeing to a valuation of my property (before we see a financial advisor) could be taken as agreeing to a sale. Is there any truth in this? Would agreeing to a valuation effect any application of a Mesher?

No.
You need to know how much the house is worth in order to negotiate what you are going to do with it.

Is the house bigger than you need and would you be able to afford the mortgage and running costs from your income?

Also consider a plan for what you would do when a trigger point occurs. One of the issues with Mesher’s is that they simply move a problem into the future, especially if house prices rise and your share is no longer enough to to rehouse yourself.
