Hi
My spouse asked me to leave the marital home in October 23, which I did. She is not interested in a reconcilliation but also not doing anything regarding a divorce. I am lost at the moment as in what to do next to formalise a separation, is that a actual thing I can do? I have asked for mediation, and have an appointment at the ed of May, I suppose I am askig what would be my next step? Any advice gratefully received, the whole thing is getting me down.
Thank you in advance

If you wish to end the marriage then start divorce proceedings yourself.

You don’t give many details but your ex may be happy with the current situation so has no motive to make the application themselves.

You can apply online yourself via the gov.uk website. Divorce is no fault so you don't have to give reasons. There's a pretty hefty fee to pay -£593 - unless you are eligible for fee remission. This can be checked on the gov.uk website.
Mediation is helpful for sorting out finances and child arrangements. You need full financial disclosure so you can work out how things should be divided. 50:50 is the start point but how it ends up depends on various factors.
Have a good look at the information on this website and the various services it provides including the free helpline. You can book a chat using the button on this page.
