I have just been made redundant, and am now claiming JSA. My costs so far are £6,000, and I was paying £245 per month. anyone any idea what my monthly payment will be now? I have three kids and pay mortgage on my own of £645 (interest only). sTBX is on dole too.

Briefly:
made redundant on 28 April.
Direction hearing on 5 May, had to pay privately (£1800 inc. VAT, 30 mins) as no legal aid cert due to redundancy and other LSC problems...
Due in court on 25th May to challenge Cafcass report, and hopefully gain sole residence of children, a contact order and also possibly another non-molestation order....

SO, WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU ARE DUE IN COURT WITHOUT LEGAL REP. AND JUDGE WONT AGREE TO AN ADJOURNMENT?

1. Request an adjournment as soon as you get in court room, giving reasons (in this case, hearing would be 'unfair' due to not having legal rep.)

2. Pay privately, est £2400 inc. VAT (did I mention I am changing sols, my last one largely ignored the domestic abuse and parental alienation we are suffering) No!

3. Contact the following agencies to get an advocate or IDVA (ind. domestic violence advisor).

Community Legal Advice (phone only)0845 345 4345
Rights For Women 020 7251 6577
Womens Aid 0808 200 0247
Family Justice Centre (google for your area)
National Centre for Domestic Violence 0844 8044 999

4. There is the possibility of getting and emergency Legal Aid Cert., but you will need a proof of benefits letter, which is very hard to come by until you have had your first payment (typ. up to three weeks after first signing on)

5. Do it all yourself and risk losing your kids....

6. Prostitution to pay your legal fees privately? That might count against you...unfit mother etc!

Good luck, I hope this helps someone out there, it took me a week of constant research to get this advice, and I still am not out of the woods X
