Hi I am in the middle of a child contact hearings and am one hearing a way from a finding of fact hearing. I have found a solicitor who is expert in the field of domestic violence and violence against children which is major part of my case. my solicitor has made an application for legal aid which could be another six weeks in process. I am in court on the 5th of May and my solicitor asked my former husbands solicitor for a short adjournment whilst we seek public funding. My former husbands solicitor replied that this was not an option and they would be making a representation to the legal services commission as I have 68,000 exquity in the property, my solicitor has told me not to worry about this as the amount would have to exceed 100,000 before my eligility was effected and I am self employed and currently am running at a loss. So my solicitor has recommended that I attend court and she will write a letter to back me and ask for an ajournment whilst my public funding is sorted out. My concern is that my ex will hold up my public funding and I will have no representation for the finding of fact hearing. My solicitor thinks that his actions show he still trying to bully me. Any advice for the hearing on Thursday would be gratefully received. Thankyou

Do you have a non-molestation order? In most cases involving domestic abuse, legal aid is granted because you are 'at risk'. Also, maybe you could consider claiming JSA until you get this out of your hair, you will get auto. Legal aid in the meantime, meanwhile try to rebuild your business and your life. Sorry this doesn't help in time for this Thurs, but worth a think. Best, B.
