I can only tell you from my experience, I was not happy with my solicitor but he kept telling me it was the other side that were delaying things.
I stuck with him thinking the extra cost of changing was not worth it or the hassle. At the final hearing he shoved off half way through and I reckon his incompetence cost me £40,000 !!
Since the hearing I have found out his incompetence caused delays he didn't submit my offers didn't chase paperwork etc. I have found this out from my ex wife's solicitor.
If you are not happy with your solicitor get rid of them they work for you and don't believe a word they tell you. Go for a firm of solicitors not an independent which is what I did.
I wish I had self represented and employed a Barrister for the final hearing although had I self represented I think it would have been resolved at FDR stage.
I am awaiting my solicitors bill. Should be interesting.
