Paralegal – A paralegal is a very important member of a legal team who has a comprehensive knowledge about the law and usually specialise in a certain area, e.g. family law, criminal, commercial etc. While paralegals are not qualified lawyers, they can carry out legal work that would have been once carried out by a lawyer and are usually members of the chartered institute of paralegals. A paralegal will usually work in a law firm and work beside solicitors, barrister and chartered legal executives.
A paralegal will assist lawyers in their work in their specialised area, a paralegal carries out such jobs as -
- Researching cases
- Managing and preparing documents
- Supporting clients
- Admin work
- Going to court
- Advising lawyers on their cases
What sort of work paralegals carry out will depend on how much experience they have. A paralegal will be able to help you organise your case. Paralegals are extremely useful during a divorce, but you may get to a point where you find you need a solicitor.
