Social services – Social services are a government organisation that has an obligation to protect the wellbeing and to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. Social services will make sure that children are cared for, safe and healthy and help children and parents with their services.
If social services are ever concerned about the wellbeing of your child (or a child, you are legally responsible for) they must investigate as that their duty. From their investigation they will decide If or what measures need to be put in place to safeguard the child. A family can request help from social services when they are in a stressful situation. A teacher or GP can also make a request on your behalf.

- If there has been domestic abuse in the relationship and are concerned this may result in harm to the child
- There are concerns of drugs being in the family home
- There are concerns a child has ben injured non-accidently
- The child must be taken in to care because of a court order or intervention by the police
A parent can make a request that their child be temporarily put in to care or with foster family if there is a stressful situation at home, or if the child has challenging behaviour.
