My child has been abducted draft
If your child has been taken out of the UK and you did not give your consent (and you have parental responsibility), your child has been abducted and this is a criminal offence. Here are your options on what to do next.
- The first thing you need to do is contact the police and explain to them that your child has been unlawfully removed from the UK after you did not give your consent for the other parent to take them.
- Contact the international child abduction and contact unit. You will need to fill out this form.
- If you know what country your child has been taken to, find out if that country is part of the Hague convention, it will make it easier for the child to be returned if they are.
- If your child has been taken out of the Hague convention or you are unsure as to what country they have been taken to, you should seek legal advice immediately from a solicitor that deals with child abduction cases.
- You can also contact Reunite, a charity which specialises in child abduction to foreign countries and works with government departments such as the ministry of justice and the foreign, commonwealth and development office in the UK.
