What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello again, may I ask couple of questions?

I filed for divorce online. I also had to fill in a D11 form to have the papers served via email, as I only have email address contact info.

First question: It seems to be taking an eternity for the papers to be served. How long should I expect to wait?

Second question: I will be having to get the Court to make a decision on the financials. I understand the first step is to submit a Form A. I'd like to do this asap. How will I know where to submit this form to? My understanding is that it will be dealt with in my local court, but there are several. I'm trying to do as much as I can without a solicitor as I've already burnt a lot of money down this route before the process is even off the ground!

Thanks again in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.

Not sure about the wait for divorce papers to be served. I guess it may depend on how busy the courts are.

The financial remedy courts are organised into regional hubs. There's a list on gov.uk. The regional hub will assign the case to your most local court.
I think if there's a pension that cannot be shared, it would be appropriate for you to ask for more capital to offset your entitlement and perhaps invest into a pension for yourself.
