Moved in with my partner over 2 years ago and invested a lot of money in his house, as it was a work in progress, such as new windows, new porch, decorating, landscaping the garden etc. I also lent him money when he got made redundant. I am paying him a monthly amount towards the mortgage as rent I suppose, I also pay into a joint account each week which covers all the bills like council tax, water rates, insurances etc. Originally my 2 teenage children were living with us but decided to go to their dad last September but that isn''t working out, and they want to come back. My partner doesn''t want them back and I will have to leave as my children have to come first. What am I entitled to reclaim from my partner as while I have been paying my way, including buying all the groceries each week, he has been over paying his mortgage by £300 a month. Feeling quite desperate as I don''t even seem to earn enough to rent a property. Would appreciate any advice. Many thanks.

Do you have evidence that you have paid for these improvements?

Is there any evidence of what the money was for or that it was intended as a loan? Could he just say that it was your contribution to housing yourself and your two children? Have you asked him what he is prepared to offer?

Is your stbx is prepared to acknowledge that you contributed and make you an offer?

Without evidence of you actually paying for the work, eg receipts for building work, unfortunately it will be extremely difficult and costly to prove you have an beneficial interest.
