Hi, a CETV has finally come through for my husband's police pension, but it's dated 2013, (when he thought it was best I leave the family home with the children), he was an Inspector at the time but is now a Superintendent on a considerably higher wage and with a much larger pension pot.

I have continued to work full time and take most of the childcare responsibility, I guess if we'd divorced in 2013 this would have been the value considered but is this still the case 6 years later,?
Plus, I believe a CETV may undervalue his pension but I can't imagine he'll agree to instructing an actuary.

I don't know how I'll get to the true/fair pension share due to me.

Any ideas??

A six year old CEV is of no real use apart from the fact you will know his pot is worth less than that.

He must provide up to date information in order for a fair settlement to be worked out.

If he had significant service prior to the relationship, that element of the pension may be excluded if needs can be met without it.

Settlement on divorce is about needs first. You need a home and income now and in the future.

If he won't engage with the process voluntarily you may have no choice but to apply to the courts for financial remedy. You need to have at least tried mediation first because the paperwork should be signed off by a mediator to say it has not worked. You can self rep in the early stages at least. Save your funds for representation further down the line.

The pension pot is worth about 3x what it was 6 years ago, but your message makes sense, if my needs are met excluding the service served before we married (9 yrs) that's good, the service & escalation in rank since we separated was with me continuing to take the majority of childcare responsibility, restricting my opportunities to progress and earn more, which I hope may be a more relevant point.

The most recent documents are clearly key to the process so I will pursue these one way or another.
