Before anyone else posts here i want you all to think about a few things, puppies, the perfect Sunday dinner, long walks in the spring sunshine, and why not ill throw in your first ever crush.
Well attempting to get something positive out of this thread and for the OP not to feel too shot down in flames.
Yes, you have hit various raw nerves. You have hit many raw nerves with me. Firstly my husband was a very heavy regular drinker for the entire period which we were together.
I had many years of more or less abstenence or just light social drinking but towards the end (well the last 10 or so years) of our 17 year marriage I started slowly to increase my wine;) consumption at home - usually drinking on my own whilst my ex was away or when he was out drinking on his own in our local pubs.
I used to have several glasses of wine before he came home (stinking of stella which btw is hideous on the breath and is known in our locality as "wifebeater" for good reason I think) and the main reason for that was that it dulled to a certain extent the way he forced himself upon me when expecting his marital dues having got loaded up with drink.
After he left and started his campaign against me my drinking got worse and I soon found myself getting into counselling and doing everything I could (the last 4 years) to help myself prevent serious damage to my health and serious damage to my children (as they had to witness not only my husbands abuse to me - and them - but then my alchol dependency after he left).
I am also very concerned about the drinking culture and the violence it produces for our youth - not least because 2 of my 3 children (the eldest being physically and mentally disabled so alchol is not a risk for him) can potentially fall prey not just to too much alchol consumption but for the violence that happens in their social scene regularly in clubs and pubs and on the street (eldest daughter 17 and youngest son 15 so this is on the agenda for them soon).
There must be a reason underlying your post and I am assuming it is connected with divorce and families. Perhaps you could expand on why and what is the relevence of your post......
Well, screwed, screw it, I am detirmined to get the better of drink - I might not though it might getter the better of me:angry:
Anyway, good idea I should think of icecream sundaes and forget drink. Hot summer days, walking my non existant dog, playing football in the park with my sons, trips to the cinema with my daughter, dancing round the living room from the tunes from the 80''s like Abba, anything really just not too much oblivion and drink.....
my concern is in regards to the growth in the consumption of wine within the home, and unfortunately the key participators are the ladies.
Oh dear, I don’t know about anyone else but that comes across to me as profoundly patronising and even misogynist. You are making no distinction between “ladies” who drink moderately and those who drink to excess; no wonder you have put some backs up.
Most of your links don’t work and you have still provided no citation for your original figures, which I believe you have misunderstood, an allegation you have not addressed. You haven’t proved your case. The Daily Mail is hardly a reliable source. You also haven’t explained why you started the thread in the first place or what you are trying to achieve. I think you are sh!t-stirring.
Ok, firstly I have made distinction between those who drink in moderation and those who don''t. Just in the same way that you will not find any suggestion that ''all'' drink wine excessively. However if you wish to twist my words, and read them in a defensive manner that is your choice, but not my words!
OK my appologies, some of the hyperlinks don''t work (perhaps due to a remote IP being used, but I''m no techie) However, on the links that are .pdf format, (which do work, but require Adobe and maybe 30 seconds to load) there is all the citation that anyone could ever need!
In regards to why I started the thread in the first place...is it that you can''t see it?...or you don''t want to see it?
The UK over the past 20 or 30 years has been, and continues to be, a massive growth market for wine sales. The majority of wine being consumed (in moderation and occasionally in excess ) in the UK is being drunk by women.
As the total participation in wine drinking increases it would appear (as per the research links given) that the routine
or habitual intake of alcohol (via wine) is also increasing.
As the number total participating increases so will the total numbers for those enjoying it in moderation ( and unfortunately those perhaps drinking alcohol (via wine) in excess
My question was....is, or has, the WINE drinking culture overall having/had an effect on peoples relationships??
@soulruler - I used to like the double icecreams....whippy icecream in a cone, with an ice lolly inside!
The thread has run it''s course, and while healthy discussion and debate are to be encouraged, when a debate is antangonistic, or designed to be contentious, or when suposition is presented as "fact" it does not provide a platform for healthy and respectful debate.
