Hi,
Im divorced my wife 15 years ago and a court order was made with regard to maintenance of my 3 children stating I should make maintenance payments until they were all 18 or out of education. My eldest daughter has Downs Syndrome and my ex wife was and still is in receipt of substantial benefits and has not had to work as a result.
My final monthly maintenance payment for my youngest child is next month but my ex wife has now contacted me stating she intends to seek maintenace for my eldest daughter who is now 28.This has come as a bit of a shock as I didnt think this was possible, but she claims to have taken legal advice and now wants me to agree to make payments to her basically for the rest of her life!
Althouigh my daughter is disabled she does not require any special support and there is no reason why my ex wife could not get a job, other than the fact she doesn't want to.
I have never missed a maintenance payment in 15 years and regularly give her extra money for the children. She is already in receipt of over £1000 a month relating to my daughters disability and carers allowance and I have been left fuming but wanting to avoid court costs. Any advice would be appreciated

If circumstances have not changed and specific child maintenance for your adult daughter ended when she was 18, I cannot see how a new application for maintenance would succeed.
Having said that, if your daughter does have specific financial needs, I am sure you would be happy to meet them.
Does she need full time care or is she pretty independent?
