What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi I'm co-habiting with my wife. It's been a struggle and we had agreed to get divorced and to sell our house in 2 years when our eldest son leaves education he is doing his A-levels.

I cannot afford to move out without financial help from my parents. I was advised not to leave the house by people who have done that.

My question is , if I moved in with my parents for 2 years or they paid for a flat for me for 2 years. Could it effect my divorce settlement?

I look after our youngest (5) 3 days a week.

I am frightened that by trying to get space and ease the pain of the breakdown of the marriage I might be putting myself in a bad position in both terms of agreeing the financial and childcare arrangements?

we both work part time and don't have enough equity or earnings to afford a property each currently.

Any advice or previous experiences of the pitfalls of moving out would be helpful . Thanks

It might.

In two years time your housing needs may deem to have been met.

How will your ex’s housing needs be met? They might possibly need a bigger share of the pot to be housed.
