What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi again

I am in the early stages of divorce proceedings, I have moved out , my wife cancelled our joint account which had all our direct debits which are in my name coming out of , and they are now starting to bounce, she is very high earner in the region of 500000 pounds per annum, I earn roughly 23000 , she has said she woud take over payments re the ones that she needs to keep ie internet for her work garden services , the kids and her mobile phone bills. I cannot change many of these into her name as she has asked without incurring large penalties , I have given her solicitor all the information and a list of requests in things which possibly still need to be changed into her name and details that she needs to use her new banking details in which to change the direct debit details, but i have not heard anything for a good week now, but have had many emails from her re the proceedings , I cannot afford to pay for her broadband phone bills etc etc , we have savings but am not being allowed access to any of this and dont even know how much we have as she controlled the finance side of things, i have a meeting tomorrow for the free 20 minute chat as I cannot afford a solicitor . any advice would be welcome as it seems she is being deliberately obstructive which will very soon affect my credit rating negatively , thanks so much
