What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello,

Does anyone know how long its currently taking to have a Consent Order approved? Mine was sent to Nottingham Court on 7th June 2024, and the last I heard it was still sitting with the judge on 21st June 2024. I've tried chasing my ex's solicitor who submitted the order and the courts but no update! I've rang HMCTS and now emailed the courts but no response!

If it helps, the consent order was drawn up by a high experienced solicitor who said it will definitely be approved and signed by both parties!

just to update anyone who was wondering what happened...it took around 8 weeks for this all to be resolved it was a nightmare...I had to send an official complaint into HMCTS, I then rang HMCTS every other day asking for an update..I finally got through to someone helpful after the 10th try who pushed things forward for me
