What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have a Consent Order and pay £1000 per month toward kids and house/bills untol the property is sold at which point a % of sale comes to me. It is on the market but wife seems to be stalling selling and has started to ask me for more moeny to contribute towards maintenance, for example she has asked for money for paint and for fence panels and extra money for kids things.

Where do I stand. If i pay towards maintaing the house too she really has no incentive to sell

Check the consent order and what it says about maintenance of the property until sale. Unless there is a clause in there requiring you to contribute, say no. If you say yes, then 1) she won't sell and 2) she will keep coming back for more.

Up,to you if you wish to pay extra voluntarily but you tend to find no matter how much extra you pay it isn’t enough and you will keep getting asked for more.

What does the Consent Order say about the time frame for putting the property on the market for sale?
If she really is dragging her heels you could consider whether some sort of enforcement action is needed.
