What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Try to avoid global maintenance at all costs especially given the age of the children.

Only one child to pay child maintenance for and their already 16.

How much will a three bed house cost in your area? Where are you all living now as it looks like FMH is sold?

Why are outgoings so high? Long term how will female afford £4K per month outgoings when income is only around £1800?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
The fmh is under offer both still living together.
We live in a very expensive area and living costs are high.
The minimum a reasonable 3 bedroom house will cost is £450k.

You have a very high income so you’ll be able to get a large mortgage and be able to rebuild pension pots to increase tax efficiency so you would be better to give up the majority of the assets to minimise maintenance.

Have you spoken to any local solicitors who know the area and local courts?

Has your stbx given any indication os what they want?

How long are income needs expected to be £4K per month and why so high?

Thanks, The Divorce Calculator is suggesting a 70/30 split of all assets plus maintenance. Jus wondered if this is likely.
My solicitor and my ex's solicitor are miles apart on what they think is fair.

The 4k a month is because of the cost of a mortgage to bridge the gap as a small mortgage will be needed.(assuming that the equity in the house is split and all debts cleared) Plus travel costs, normal bills, pet care, costs for teenager etc.

I wouldn’t take any notice of the divorce calculator.
Obviously your respective solicitors will each be advising you of where negotiations should start. What is yours saying, as that is the reality check? What does your ex want?
