A benefit calculator on gov.uk came up with a staggering £900 a month of Child Tax Credit for my ex-wife, when I input her situation.

Is that normal? It looks to good to be true.

Sounds about right if she doesn''t work many hours! Think CTC is about £60 a week for each child + CB -+ she''ll get your CM - depending on the age of the kids will depend how long she gets all this - usually ends when they leave full time education. Not sure if the government rules on universal credit will limit these amounts? If you got the info from gov.uk it should be right!

Universal Credit will not affect the maximum amount of benefits a person can receive. The overall Benefit Cap can affect it.

There is a list of which benefits are included in the benefit cap here . Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit are both included. She would not be subject to the benefit cap if she works more than 16 hours.

As a single parent she can receive up to £500 per week in benefits. If she is receiving Housing Benefit as well then it''s possible that she could reach this, otherwise on the basis of what you''ve put here she is unlikely to be affected.

£900 per month for 4 children sounds about right. I used to get £460 per month for 2 children
