Hi, I have a 7 year old and separated from her father 6 months after her birth in 2001 (we were never married), he does have his name on the birth certificate but does not have 'parental responsiblity'. I am taking my child on a two wek holiday to florida and he has told her that I need his permission to take her (I have taken her on at least 8 holidays without him in the past). I would just like any info/clarification on my legal position.

(For info - the relationship has always been strained, he assaulted me on a regular basis and I no longer have any direct contact with him we arrange visitation through solicitors and his mother)

Thanks

If he does not have parental responsibility (presumably because she was born before 2003 when fathers named on birth certs automatically had pr) then I don't think he can prevent you.
