Hi,

my ex applied for me to get reassessed by the CSA a few months ago. I filled in all the forms and sent off the necessary documentaion. I have heard nothing since then. How long does it usually take?

As my circumstances have recently changed (new job, more money etc) I am expecting to have to pay quite a bit more. Will these payments be backdated to when my ex first applied for the reassessment? Should I be putting money aside just in case I have to make overpayments?

Finally, I am on the 'old' CSA system (divorced in 2000). Is this likely to remain the case forever??

thanks in advance,
Dezzy

Phone them - I have found them to be quite efficient if you phone them and ask them questions but otherwise, things just seem to remain up in the air. They will backdate to the date your ex applied for the variation so really, it's in your interests to push them to get it sorted so you're not dealing with this for any longer than you have to.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I will try and give the CSA a call this week. One more quick question - will I be expected to pay the overpayments all at once or will they be spread out a bit?

Muchtoomuch - I realise I won't have to pay forever ;) I just meant will I be able to get off the old system at some point before he leaves education (he's 12 now).

I cancelled the csa under the old system, waited for 13 weeks and reapplied under the new one. Under the old system my ex received a nil assessment. Under the new system he was assessed and had to pay! :)
