Can anyone enlighten me on whether the Child Support Agency is to be abolished and replaced by a fairer system?
Thanks

Note that the new CMEC will have the same offices, same staff, same CEO (Stephen Geraghty) and the same unreliable computer system which will be running (or trying to run) no fewer than three different schemes.

The legislation remains the same, with the only real change being the relaxation of Section 6 to allow parents to make their own arrangements. It certainly won't be any fairer, as none of the factors which make it unfair has been addressed. It will be more aggressively enforced, which will mean less contact between fathers and their children (because currently fathers can 'buy' contact) and more fathers going to prison.

It's more of a rebranding exercise, like changing the name of the Post Office to Consignia, or Windscale to Sellafield, or the National Front to BNP, etc, etc. I suspect it will be about as successful, cynic that I am.

No, and No, in short.

There is a new body, CMEC, which came into being with the Govt's latest attempt at a child maintenance scheme.
Bearing in mind that the CSA already runs two forms of "CSA", so we effectiely already have CSA1 and CSA2, CMEC is effectively CSA3. Like most sequels, it doesn't show any noticeable major improvements. The basic premise of calculating maintenance as a percentage of income remains, with some new twists: see website link above.
From the point of view of the legal profession this does of course mean we now have (at least) 3 different flavours of CSA assessment all still around at the same time creatig Absolute confusion, 3 quite different sets of rules, etc etc. So its not all bad news:blush:
